Our colleagues at the Zoological Society of Milwaukee have put together an exciting and informative play about conservation in the Democratic Republic of Congo called "The Congo Code" that they are taking on the road to local schools. In the play, performers from Kohl's Wild Theater bring students on a fantastical, virtual-reality journey to the Congo. The characters use knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) as they lead students through tropical forests to eventually come face-to-face with a bonobo. Audiences also witness the effects of poachers who threaten these natural ecosystems. The performers used BCBI as an inspiration for the themes discussed in the play, exploring the benefits and difficulties of protecting bonobos in the wild. We are grateful to the Kohl's Wild Theater staff for championing our cause and spreading conservation ethics to students in Wisconsin.
